Kat Liu

Senior Software Engineer
Who are you ?
A nerd and mentor by day, and mixed martial arts punching bag, inconsistent cook, mediocre musician, plant enthusiast by night

What do you do for a living ?
I'm a software engineer who specializes in distributed systems, microservice architectures, and authentication protocols. Given N26's strong devops and automation culture, I also dabble quite a bit in deployment pipelines, configuration management, and testing frameworks as well. All while trying to keep a product-centric and value-driven mindset.

What do you want to speak about at FlowCon ?
I'll be speaking about how N26 managed an exponential increase in infrastructural complexity when deploying new environments to new regions, all the while tripling in headcount and dealing with organizational bottlenecks. Lots of complexity of all kinds!

What would make you say “waouh” at the end of the conference ?
Maybe learning a few French words :)

What will make you think that attendees have learnt a lot during your session ?
Questions. A lack of questions means either the content was too easy or too difficult, neither of which are good outcomes.

What is your favorite word ?
Flow! It's the perfect state between too easy and too difficult, where learning is maximized, but feels engaging and natural.

What is the sound, the noise that you love ?
That snap and echo of a perfectly placed high kick hitting Muay Thai pads

What is the plant, tree or animal which you would love to be reincarnated into ?
An Aloe vera succulent -- it's incredibly resilient and hard to kill, has therapeutic properties, and loves sunlight.

What is the question you would have liked us to ask you ?
Want to grab dinner or drinks after the conference (to which I would respond "absolutely!")?
